Turkish Airstrikes Targeting Kurds in Northern Syria Videos circulating on social media show Turkish forces targeting Kurdish troops with airstrikes in northern Syria. The first videos were posted to social media during the overnight hours—just hours after President Donald Trump said the U.S. would be pulling out of that part of the country. region. But the ”Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” claims the strikes hit Kurdish positions in Iraq. Turkish President Recep Erdogan said his country will not bow to the U.S. threats if it should act inappropriately in its operation against the Kurds. He’s also warning that his troops are ready to launch their ground invasion with the ultimate goal of establishing a ”safe zone” where Syrian refugees in his own country can be resettled. It is widely expected the Kurds will attempt to align themselves with the Syrian army loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. Russia, which has warned Turkey against an invasion, has pledged to provide air cover for the forces loyal to the embattled Syrian leader. Iranian media reports Tehran has been informed by Erdogan that the northern Syria operation will be short and will only target terrorists. (Photo Credit: Turkish Air Force)
